Preserving Tradition: Vrsaranski Amareti Workshop for Young Pastry Students

In November 2024, a Vrsaranski Amareti workshop was held for pastry students at the Eugen Kumičić Vocational School in Rovinj. The workshop aimed to introduce young students to the local gastronomic tradition and the practical steps involved in preparing this distinctive pastry, while also highlighting the importance of preserving cultural and culinary heritage within the tourism sector.

During the theoretical part of the workshop, Klara Trošt Lesić, the director, shared her experiences with the students, emphasizing how the preservation of Vrsaranski amareti contributes to the destination’s recognition and tourism development.

The practical session was led by Barica Pisak, this year’s winner of the Best Amareti competition, who inspired the future pastry chefs to actively participate in making these traditional amareti and to master the key techniques needed to achieve their authentic taste and texture.

Special recognition goes to the Italian Community of Vrsar, as well as culinary teachers Sandra Živolić and Tihomir Horvat from the Eugen Kumičić Vocational School, whose engagement and support helped organize the workshop and promote the preservation of this culinary tradition through the education of new generations.

This workshop allowed students to develop their skills through hands-on experience, foster cultural awareness, and gain a deeper understanding of the significance of local gastronomy as part of the tradition and identity of the destination.
