Vrsar amaretti, a distinctive delicacy of local gastronomic heritage, were presented on 14 August 2024 at the 26th edition of the Slatka Istra festival, held in the centre of Vižinada. This long-standing event, dedicated to traditional Istrian desserts, takes place every year ahead of the Feast of the Assumption and brings together participants from across the region.
Within the festival’s rich programme celebrating time-honoured recipes of Istrian households, Vrsar amaretti were featured as a guest dessert, showcased in the exhibition section alongside traditional sweets such as fritule, kroštule, pinca, cukerančići and other emblematic elements of Istrian culinary heritage.
The participation of Vrsar amaretti at Slatka Istra had a clear objective: to present this authentic Vrsar specialty to a wider audience and to position it within the shared sweet heritage of Istria. Their presence in Vižinada highlighted the value of a recipe preserved and passed down through generations, as well as the importance of safeguarding and promoting it beyond its local context.
For decades, Slatka Istra has served as a platform for the exchange of knowledge, experience and tradition, with a strong focus on transmitting culinary heritage to younger generations. In this context, the guest appearance of Vrsar amaretti represents an important step in the promotion and valorisation of Vrsar’s confectionery heritage, confirming their growing recognition within the broader cultural and gastronomic landscape of Istria.
Through participation in such events, Vrsar amaretti continue their journey from a local specialty to a symbol of place identity, rooted in respect for tradition, quality ingredients and a shared commitment to preserving heritage for future generations.
