At the close of another year, Vrsar opens its doors to a world where photography becomes a bridge between people, places, and stories.
As part of a rich holiday programme, Vrsar once again becomes a centre of art with the fourth “Vista Sur” photo book festival, taking place on December 20 and 21, organised by the OrsArta Association. The festival brings together artists from around the globe and serves as an analogue platform for the promotion of professional, artistic, and subjective photography, with a special focus on the increasingly popular medium – the photo book. Alongside the presentation of works, the event encourages the exchange of experience among professional photographers and photography enthusiasts, both locally and internationally.
The ceremonial opening will be held on December 20 at 20:00 at the premises of the Italian Community, accompanied by a musical performance by the duo Andrej Kos (accordion) and Jure Lešnik (clarinet). Visitors will be able to view the exhibition of photographic–publishing projects on Sunday as well, from 15:00 to 20:00.
This year, special emphasis is placed on inviting artists from the Balkans, Italy, Spain, Portugal, South America, and the Middle East to submit their original and contemporary works.
The festival also offers a kind of visual sanctuary for the “south” – a place where the sun shines, emotions run deep, and time flows at a different rhythm. This “south” may be a space of contrasts, from beauty to chaos, or a place that exists only in poetic imagination, as a symbol of a sweet longing for a better tomorrow. Although often hidden and outside the main currents, the festival reveals it anew through the voices and visions of its authors.
