GREEN TOUR partners reviewed research findings and preparations for a training programme supporting sustainable coastal tourism.
On 7 October 2026, the GREEN TOUR partnership held its second Transnational Project Meeting online, coordinated by the University of Dubrovnik. The meeting focused on progress under Work Package 2 (WP2), which examines the green skills needed for sustainable coastal tourism, and on preparations for the next project phase: the development of a training programme.
Funded by the Erasmus+ programme, GREEN TOUR – Green Skills for Sustainable Tourism aims to strengthen the role of higher education institutions in the green transition of coastal tourism. Through cooperation between universities and tourism stakeholders, the project will develop micro-credential-based training opportunities for students and tourism professionals.
During the meeting, the partnership reviewed the consolidated study prepared under WP2 – Green Pathways Lab. Drawing on national reports and research conducted at European level, the study examines good practices in sustainable coastal tourism, skills gaps, barriers to the green transition, and training and professional development needs.
Particular attention was given to aligning the identified training needs with GreenComp, the European Sustainability Competence Framework. The findings will provide the basis for defining learning outcomes and developing the Green Skills for Sustainable Tourism programme under Work Package 3 (WP3).
Partners discussed the remaining steps required to finalise the study and prepare it for publication in English, Croatian, Spanish, Italian and Greek. The next phase will focus on developing training content that reflects both shared European priorities and the specific needs of individual countries and regions. Tourism professionals and other relevant stakeholders will be involved in this process.
In addition to the research activities, the meeting covered project coordination, quality assurance, preparations for WP3, the development of the GREEN TOUR Digital Hub, and communication and stakeholder engagement activities.
The project is laying the groundwork for training opportunities that respond to the needs of the tourism sector and support more sustainable coastal destination management. By bringing together research, higher education expertise and the practical experience of tourism stakeholders, GREEN TOUR aims to strengthen the green skills needed to advance the green transition of tourism.
