Concert of the Mysterium Chamber Choir

Dates

14 Jun26

The Vrsar Tourist Board invites all lovers of choral music to a concert by the Mysterium Chamber Choir from Slovenia, taking place on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 7:00 PM in the Church of St. Mary of the Sea.

The Mysterium Chamber Choir from Kranj has been active since 2005, when a group of choral music enthusiasts founded a new ensemble. Today, it brings together singers of different generations and professions, united by a shared passion for vocal music and concert performance. The choir is known for its openness to a wide variety of musical styles and projects, ranging from thematic programmes to vocal-instrumental collaborations. It performs regularly both in Slovenia and abroad and takes part in international competitions, where it has achieved notable success. Highlights include multiple awards at the international Slovakia Cantat competition, acclaimed performances at the ChorAlp Festival in Briançon and at the Golden Ring of Chopin competition in Austria, as well as a recent success in Olomouc, where the choir won two Gold Awards.

Since 2024, the choir has been conducted by Fernando Mejías. He began his musical journey in Mendoza, Argentina, where he studied music theory, solfège, and piano, while also working as a singer and répétiteur. He later directed the Slovenian Choir in Mendoza, with which he also toured Slovenia. Since 1998, he has lived and worked in Slovenia, where he completed his conducting studies at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. He has conducted several choirs and performed as a singer in renowned vocal ensembles. Since 2003, he has been a member of the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir, where he has also served as Assistant Conductor.

The concert programme in Vrsar offers a diverse overview of choral literature. The first part features compositions and arrangements inspired by Slovenian tradition and the Central European musical heritage (Gruber, Pahor, Jež, Vulc, Jenko/Lebič, Čopi, Jereb). The second part opens a broader international perspective, ranging from Norwegian folk music and African American spirituals to a traditional Zambian song in contemporary arrangements. The programme brings together different cultures and musical languages, highlighting the contrast between lyrical, rhythmic, and energetic choral expression.

We warmly invite residents and visitors of Vrsar to enjoy an evening of outstanding vocal music in the unique atmosphere of the Church of St. Mary of the Sea.

Admission is free.
