Saint George's Day

Dates

23 Apr26

On Thursday, April 23, 2026, the town of Vrsar will mark the St. George's Day with a distinctive maritime pilgrimage.

The program begins at 3:30 PM with the departure of traditional fishing boats from the old pier toward St. George Island in the Vrsar archipelago. Upon arrival, a procession accompanied by the rosary prayer will take place along the island’s landscaped promenade. The central moment of the celebration—a solemn Holy Mass held in front of the historic Church of St. George—will begin at 4:30 PM.

The return to Vrsar is scheduled for 6:00 PM, followed by a convivial gathering at the old pier featuring live music and a curated selection of local gastronomy.

St. George Island, the largest in the Vrsar archipelago, forms a natural shelter for the town’s harbor and modern marina. The island is open to visitors during daytime hours, and on its eastern side, below the church, a small anchorage allows access ashore. Historically, the island was administered by the Brotherhood of St. George, leaving a lasting imprint on its cultural and spiritual heritage.
